EXODERIL: Definition and Usage

EXODERIL is a solution containing 1% naftifine, which is suitable for treating fungal infections. Naftifine, the active ingredient, effectively targets skin fungi, yeasts, molds, and other bacterial infections commonly associated with fungal infections in humans. EXODERIL is specifically used for treating fungal infections of the feet, especially between the toes, the bottom of the foot (characterized by redness, swelling, peeling, or itchy blisters), and nails.

Important Precautions before Using EXODERIL

If you are allergic to naftifine or any of the excipients listed in section 6, do not use EXODERIL. Inform your doctor immediately at the first signs of side effects. Avoid using EXODERIL solution if you experience an allergy. This solution is intended for use on the skin only, and you should avoid contact with the eyes. Do not apply the solution to open wounds as the alcohol content in it can cause painful burns.

Duration of Treatment

To prevent recurrence, continue using EXODERIL at the same dosage for at least two weeks after the infection has cleared. If there is no improvement within four weeks, consult your doctor to review the treatment.

Use in Children, Adolescents, and Patients with Impaired Renal or Hepatic Function

The safety and effectiveness of naftifine in children and adolescents below 18 years of age have not been established due to insufficient data. No dose adjustment is necessary for patients with impaired renal or hepatic function. Inform patients about standard hygiene measures to prevent sources of infection and reinfection.

Interactions with Other Medicines

There are no known interactions between EXODERIL and other drugs.

Pregnancy, Lactation, and Fertility

No studies have established the impact of EXODERIL 1% solution on fertility. The use of naftifine in pregnant women is limited, and there is no indication of direct or indirect harmful effects on reproductive toxicity based on animal studies. When properly applied, this medicine is not expected to affect the fetus or newborn, as teratogenicity studies do not demonstrate any embryotoxic effect of naftifine. As a precautionary measure, it is advisable to avoid using EXODERIL 1% solution during pregnancy and lactation.

How to Use EXODERIL

Unless otherwise prescribed, carefully follow the recommended dosage instructions. Apply EXODERIL 1% solution once daily to the affected areas. Thoroughly clean and dry the areas before applying the solution. Even if symptoms (itching, redness, etc.) improve rapidly, it is important for patients with fungal skin infections to continue treatment for two weeks after complete resolution of symptoms to prevent their recurrence. Fungal nail infections require several months of treatment for the healthy nail to grow. To expedite the healing process of fungal infections, follow these guidelines:

  1. Microorganisms causing fungal infections may attach to clothing in contact with the affected areas. Therefore, daily replacement of such clothing is necessary.
  2. Maintaining normal and especially dry skin surfaces provides the best protection against fungal infections. Avoid wearing tight and poorly ventilated clothing, such as synthetic socks and tight shoes, on the affected areas. Thoroughly dry the affected areas after washing, and change towels daily.
  3. If you have a fungal infection of the feet, avoid walking barefoot at home, in swimming pools, or in public areas to prevent the spread of infection to others and to avoid reinfection.
  4. Refrain from visiting saunas or steam baths until the fungal infection has completely cleared.

Method of Administration

You can directly apply the solution from the vial using a dropper or on a piece of cotton.
