Instructions for Use Smecta:
Always follow the instructions provided in this leaflet or follow the guidance given by your doctor or pharmacist when using Smecta. If you are unsure, ask your doctor or pharmacist for clarification.
Treatment of Acute Diarrhea:
For children 2 years of age and older: Take 6 g per day, which is equivalent to 2 sachets per day. At the beginning of an episode of acute diarrhea, the dose may be doubled.
For adults:
Take 9 g per day, which corresponds to 3 sachets per day. At the start of treatment, the daily dose may be doubled.
Other Indications:
For adults: The recommended daily dose is 9 g, which corresponds to 3 sachets per day.
Method and Route of Administration:
Use orally. Mix the contents of the sachet with liquid to form a suspension just before using. For children, mix the contents of the sachet with water in a 50 ml bottle and administer it at intervals throughout the day. Alternatively, mix it with semi-liquid food such as broth, compote, puree, or baby food. For adults, mix the contents of the sachet with half a glass of water.
Always take this medicine exactly as prescribed or as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you are unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
If You Take More Smecta than Recommended:
Taking excessive Smecta can cause constipation. Constipation usually subsides when treatment is stopped or the dose is reduced.
If You Forget to Take Smecta:
Do not take a double dose to compensate for a missed dose.
If you have any further questions about the use of this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Do Not Take Smecta:
If you are allergic to diosmectite or any of the other ingredients in this medicine.
Warnings and Precautions:
Before using Smecta, talk to your doctor or pharmacist if:
Your doctor has informed you about an intolerance to certain sugars, particularly if you have a history of severe constipation.
Do not use Smecta in infants and children under 2 years of age. For children over 2 years old, use Smecta only for the treatment of acute diarrhea along with early administration of oral rehydration solution (ORS). Avoid using Smecta for an extended period.
Talk to your doctor:
If the symptoms of acute diarrhea persist for more than 3 days. If the pain is accompanied by fever or vomiting.
This medicine contains small amounts of ethanol (alcohol) less than 100 mg per dose.
Children and Adolescents:
Use Smecta to treat acute diarrhea in children over 2 years of age. When treating children, administer oral rehydration solution (ORS) early along with the treatment of acute diarrhea to prevent dehydration.
Additional Nutrition Guidelines:
Provide rehydration with multiple salty or sugary drinks to compensate for fluid loss due to diarrhea (average daily water intake in adults should be 2 liters). Continue eating while experiencing diarrhea, but avoid certain foods, especially raw vegetables and fruits, green vegetables, spicy foods, and frozen foods or beverages. Prefer grilled meat and rice.
Other Medicines and Smecta:
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines, including non-prescription medicines.
The adsorption properties of Smecta may affect the absorption rate of other substances. Therefore, it is recommended to keep a 2-hour interval between taking Smecta and any other medicine.
Pregnancy, Breastfeeding, and Fertility:
Smecta is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or planning to become pregnant, seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
Driving and Using Machines:
No studies have been conducted on the effects of Smecta on the ability to drive or operate machinery, but no effects are expected.
Smecta Contains Glucose and Sucrose:
If your doctor has informed you about an intolerance to certain sugars, consult your doctor before taking this medicine. Smecta contains 0.679 g of glucose per dose. This should be considered for patients with diabetes mellitus.
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people) include constipation. Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people) include rash. Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people) include nettle fever (itchy rash). The frequency of other side effects is unknown.
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton and sachet (EXP). The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month. Do not use this medicine if you notice any visible signs of damage to the sachet.
This product does not require any special storage conditions.
Do not dispose of medicines in sewage or household waste.
Consult your pharmacist for instructions on how to dispose of medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
